In the small port of Garraf / Spain, a new German campaign is preparing for the first pro fittings. Today the new mini-prototype by Jörg Riechers from the shipyard has arrived. Already tomorrow, Germany’s most successful one-hand sailor will be taking part in the Double Hand regatta “III mini mare nostrum” around the Balearic Islands, together with the former Starboot sailor and Olympic medalist Robert Stanjek.
The aim is not only to continue the joint sailing cooperation, but also to gather qualification miles for the Minitransat in the autumn of this year, in which Jörg Riechers would like to participate.
At the top of the agenda are experiences with the new boat. The schedule is so tight that the regatta is also the first test ride, the route to the starting line at the same time the maiden voyage for a new, 6.50 meter long mini, which so far has not yet existed.
In just eight weeks, the new Proto, a Bertrand design, was built in Tunisia at Magic Yachts. He is to win the Minitransat 2017. A guarantee for this is not only the experienced mini-specialist Riechers, but also a technical innovation on the boat. Riechers did not want to mention details yet. However, given the developments in the mini-prototypes, it can be assumed that a boat in this category can only be competitive if it is completely foiled.
Recently, a competitor, the already successful “Magnum”, was modified as a full-featured model. However, this boat does not yet meet the Minitransat rules.
On the first photos, which were created shortly after unpacking the boat, the pronounced scow shape of the bow is striking. This form was last seen in some new developments such as “Arkema” and has already been successful with previous Minitransats. In addition, there are no recordings for plug-in devices.
The mini-project is the start of a larger German offshore campaign, which aims to take part in the big offshore races step by step. Apart from the bundling of the different sailing skills of Riechers and Stanjek, it is also about the development of professional management and project structures.
